First snow of the season.....

It’s December 1st, and we are getting our first snow of the season! How appropriate! This isn’t any great snowfall…just enough to stick to the garage roof and deck, like a sprinkling of powdered sugar. I love the first snow of the year! I feel like a kid every year, at the first snowfall.

There is a very large window in the front of the restaurant, and directly across the street is a wooded area. (As big as a wooded area can be, on the outskirts of what used to be a small town that got swallowed up by suburban sprawl) Anyways, from time to time we see deer on the edge of the woods. Last Saturday afternoon, someone said the deer were out, so we (workers and customers) all flocked to the window to see the deer. They were a little hard to spot at times, since they blended in so well with the background. (I guess that’s all part of the nature/camouflage thing) I was commenting on how they’ll be much easier to spot when there’s some snow on the ground. Although this snowfall won’t make any difference, the first one never does…..and according to the weather report, that statement won’t make a liar out of me.

So….being in a mellow state of mind this morning…..I keep getting this Currier & Ives picture floating through my head of sitting in the dining room, nestled in your chair, next to the gentle warmth of the fireplace….Irish Coffee in hand…..gazing out at the shy little deer standing at the edge of the woods.

Makes me feel like the Holiday season in our part of the world has officially begun.

Then the reverie is broken when someone mentions shopping, and your head is filled with visions of crowded shopping malls, people erratically darting in every direction not really knowing where they are going, not caring who they cut off or bump into….STOP! REWIND!

Let’s go back to sitting next to the fire and relaxing for a while…….
