Happenstance. Love that word. That’s best way I can describe last night.
It started out like any other Wednesday night…..there was a banquet going on, the dining room had some traffic, and the bar was slow. Then all of a sudden two old friends from high school showed up, to talk a little business. One is a musician who broke the top 100 of the Nashville’s Music Row chart, and is currently at #62. The other is a promoter who’s worked with some of the top names in the music industry. Then….. A local publisher comes in (who’s helping me with my book)…I told him the musician had read my book, and the musician said since he knew me, he read it my voice. I thought that was pretty cool…..well…..it made for really interesting conversation.
A short time later the publisher had to leave. Then the owner comes behind the bar and starts talking to the other two. What do they start talking about? Restaurants! Then they moved on to politics. I became an observer. It was fascinating to watch three such different people share their views.
The owner used to be pretty high up with one of the Big 3 auto companies…turns out they all knew some people in common. (Ya gotta love this small world stuff) They kept talking….the restaurant emptied out…. The rest of the staff was gone, they kept talking. So I kept listening and observing. These guys were having a blast! More than an hour after everyone else had gone, this little impromptu soiree broke up.
Moral of the story: Sometimes you learn a whole lot more by listening.
